Red's health has been the subject of humor on occasion. He has hinted that he saw action in Vietnam.

Mainly, though, he talks about fighting in the Korean war. He has mentioned fighting in the Western front as well. He fought in the Pacific front in battles such as Guadalcanal, Okinawa, Iwo Jima. When an emotionally rattled Jackie hugs him, he exclaims: "When the hell did this start? The kids all used to run away from me! That's the way I liked it!". Policemen actually feel bad for Eric because Red is his father ("Stolen Car"). Unlike Kitty, who lives for being everyone's favorite mom, Red is universally feared all throughout Point Place, especially by teenagers, and he likes it that way. He says his Mother Bernice gave it to him. In general, Red does not like Eric's friends hanging out in his home and, specifically, he generally dislikes Donna's parents, especially Bob, though he does occasionally show moments of genuine friendship towards him.Įxactly why or how he got the nickname Red is unknown, but presumably it was because he had red hair when was young. Red appears to take more pride in Hyde because to Red, Hyde is a better example of what a real young man should be, despite Hyde's anti-authoritarian attitude. Most of the time Red treats Eric's friend Steven Hyde, who moves in with the Formans' better than he treats his own son Eric. He also experiences great difficulty in saying "I love you", "Thank you", and "I'm sorry" to Eric. He also uses this threat against many other characters who annoy him. He degrades his son by calling him a "dumb-ass", among other names, and often makes the infamous "my-foot-in-your-ass" threats when he thinks Eric is being a smart mouth. He always sees Laurie as "Daddy's Little Girl" instead of the mean-spirited, whore she truly is, but becomes wiser to her after finding out she lied to him about moving in with a friend when she was really living with a young man ("Laurie Moves Out"). He is a tough, no-nonsense father and tends to favor his daughter Laurie whom he does not realize is a slut, and he is shrew over his son Eric, whom he considers soft and wimpy. His wife is Kitty Forman (neé Sigurdson).

Red's hobbies include hunting and fishing. Around 1980, she signed to Dimension Records and had a small string of hits beginning with "There Ain't Nothing like a Rainy Night" and ending in 1982 with "That's What Your Lovin' Does to Me." Forman has had considerably more success as a writer many prominent artists such as Bill Anderson, Jean Shepard and George Strait recorded her songs.Red is a gruff veteran with a dry sense of humor who served in WWII as a US Navy sailor stationed aboard a Destroyer which goes down in the Pacific and in Korea also as a sailor. She recorded several other singles, but they never made it to the charts. He and Snuffy Miller then became the producers of her debut single "The Danger Zone," which became a minor hit. In 1978, Conway Twitty, an early supporter, recorded her "Yours to Hurt Tomorrow," and helped Forman sign a recording contract with MCA in the mid-'70s. Not long after, her "Out of My Head and Back in My Bed" became a chart topping hit for Loretta Lynn. At the time, she was also writing songs, and one of them was recorded by Joe Lewis. After their marriage, they began performing together in a band with Wayne singing leads and playing guitar and Peggy on harmonies. A music lover and singer since childhood, young Peggy met her husband Wayne Forman while still in high school. The daughter of an oilfield worker and a homemaker, she hailed from Centerville, Louisiana. Peggy Forman was a well-known Nashville songwriter.
